Swiss, Heat Exchanger – KEA`s Heat Exchanger Inspection in Switzerland!

One notable difference between ASME and KEA inspections is the requirement to specify safety valve information on the nameplate. This issue becomes especially evident during the import equipment inspection process.

In the case of KEA inspections, the pressure safety valve (PSV), which is a safety device for pressure vessels, must be reviewed during the drawing review stage. Both the drawing and the nameplate must declare the rated discharging capacity and the required discharging capacity.

The rated discharging capacity must always be greater than the required discharging capacity.

For manufacturers who only supply pressure vessels, this information is typically handled by the engineering company. As a result, they may not be aware of or involved in this aspect. Therefore, during KEA drawing review, it is necessary to explain additionally.

Since the pressure vessel manufacturer does not produce safety devices, stating “Not our scope” is understandable. However, it would be more effective to review and document this information during the drawing approval stage to facilitate future installation inspections and maintenance planning. While safety devices are mandatory protective components, there are exceptional cases where their installation can be omitted. The current case involving the Swiss heat exchanger falls under such an exception. If the pressure source is physically incapable of exceeding the design pressure of the equipment, the installation of safety devices may be deemed unnecessary.

압력용기만 공급하는 제조사의 경우 이 부분은 엔지니어링사가 주로 담당하기에 정보를 모르거나 관여하지 않기에 KEA도면 검사 시, 이해를 위해 제조사에게 추가적인 설명을 해주어야 한다.

안전장치는 압력용기 제조사가 생산하는 품목이 아니기에 "Scope이 아닌 데 왜 요구하냐?" 는 제조사의 질문이 이해가 되는 측면이 있지만, 추후 설치검사 및 관리측면에선 도면 검사단계에서 확인하고 선언하는 것이 효율적이라 생각된다.

방호장치로 안전장치는 필수적으로, 설치해야 하지만 예외적인 경우 설치가 생략될 수도 있다. 이번 스위스 열교환기의 경우 여기에 해당된다. 물리적으로 압력원이 설비의 디자인 압력을 초과하지 않는다면 안전장치 설치는 생략되어도 된다.
